Hello and good morning!
I just wanted to hop on today to, not only announce that I will be taking part in NaNoWriMo, but also to officially announce my project.
At the beginning of the year, I had it in my head that I wasn’t going to do any kind of writing this year. With my growing TBR pile getting slightly out of hand, I wanted to focus more on reading and less on writing. Although, to be honest, I had also put it in my mind that I was going to take a break from blogging and then I went and started a brand new website.
Such is the flighty mind of a writer…..
Though I’ve tried to stay focused on reading, my creative mind would not be silenced. It started with me going back through old story ideas to clear up space on my computer, which suddenly turned in to me spending hours rereading and daydreaming and self editing.
So, I figured if I was going to open myself up to writing again, what better way to kick it off than with NaNoWriMo? My own writing thrives surrounded by other writers and dreamers.
And so, this year I will be working on a contemporary romance titled Help Wanted At Windy Creek.
Synopsis from Help Wanted At Windy Creek
Lauren’s life has always revolved around her family. For them, she’s given up her boyfriend, college, her dream of one day getting out of the prison they call home. When she sees an ad for a ranch hand, room and board included, she sees her ticket out. What she doesn’t expect is to be hired on the spot. Nor does she expect her boss to be a temptation to her in a flannel shirt and cowboy boots.
Cameron Mathews has worked Windy Creek farmstead his entire life. Since buying the property from his father, he is responsible for everything on this land. That seems to include the new ranch hand that someone hired while he wasn’t looking. With everything he has going on, the last thing he needs is a distraction, for himself and the other hands. But when her troubled past catches up to her, he finds that he would move hell and high water to keep her from the miserable life she once led.
This is going to be the first in a series, and though I’ve tried working on this for several years now, I think I’ve finally figured out what makes these characters tick. In the past, I had forced the characters in a direction that didn’t really suit them and it always ended up reading as if they were just dry husks voicing words. There was no substance to either of them because I was making them into something they weren’t meant to be.
I know that sounds weird talking about fictional characters as if they were real, but my fellow writers out there understand the conversations that take place within their own minds. Sometimes a book needs to go in the direction the character wants it to go.
I am so excited for next month! Seriously cannot wait!
Let me know in the comments if you plan on taking part in NaNoWriMo. Though I will be making an official post soon, if you are writing something similar and want a writing buddy (or even if you just want to share in this excitement and keep each other moving forward) click on the link here to add me on NaNo’s website as a writing buddy!
I’ve also been giving thought to having a writing group through Google for those that want to continue after NaNo. Leave a comment below if that is something you would be interested in!
That is all for today and until next time………………
Good luck Ashley! I think I will also participate this year 🙂

Thank you! Have you decided what type of novel you’ll be writing?
