Short Synopsis:

Alva Webster has returned to New York to make a new name for herself, despite her name being trampled in almost every newspaper across two continents. Determined to leave old ghosts behind, Alva sets out to restore a crumbling mansion from her childhood memories. But when strange sightings send her working crew running, she is forced to turn to an expert.

Samuel Moore may be a professor, but he and his family are eccentric beyond polite society. The possibilities of a ghostly realm excites him not to mention his interest in this cool determined woman who refuses to let her passion show. Together they explore the house, its secrets, and their kindling love for one another.

My Thoughts:

I was in love with this book and its characters from the very beginning. Diana Biller created such beautifully unique characters! I’ve read plenty of historical romances before, but never with such vibrant characters. As I read, something in my heart ached for poor Alva and the things she had and was going through in this book. She is such a strong woman but that little bit of uncertainty that would seep out when she remembered her life before at times made me want to hold on to her and tell her everything was going to be okay. As for Professor Samuel Moore, he was hilariously sweet, and weird, and cookey. But he was perfect and was certainly perfect for Alva. The author made me fall in love with them both.

Characters aside, the plot in this tale was well executed and hauntingly beautiful. It was equal parts moving the story forward with the next delicious piece of the puzzle as well as charming moments of character building.

Would I Recommend:

Even though I received a copy of the ebook for free, I went and purchased myself a physical copy because this is a beauty that I want on my shelves to read and reread over and over. Diana Biller is officially on my radar and I hope and pray that she comes out with another book soon because I can’t wait for more of her writing. Amazing writing, a tantalizing plot with my favorite couple of the year, this is a must read! Be sure to order your copy today!
