“Training” for 75 Hard Fitness Challenge

Hey guys! I came across this extreme challenge about a year ago via YouTube. When I first saw it, I was like “this is my way to finally reach my goal weight” and “I can totally do this…it’s not going to be that hard.” After researching it and trying to see how this would fit into my life, I realized this was not a challenge I could just jump into without some preperation. It has taken me a year to get to this point, but I feel like I am finally ready to “try” to tackle this challenge.

What Is 75 Hard?

This challenge was create by Andy Frisella. There are multiple phases, the longest being phase one, which lasts 75 days. The rules are simple. Rule #1 you must complete two 45 minute workouts a day, one of which must be outdoors. So even if it’s pouring rain or the worst blizzard in history, you’re spending 45 minutes out there. Rule #2 you must follow a diet. Any diet is allowed, however, no cheat meals are allowed and absolutely no alcohol. Rule #3 you need to drink a gallon of water a day. Rule #4 read 10 pages a day. Audio books are not allowed and the book must be nonfiction/self-help. Rule #5 Take a progress picture every day.

That’s it. Five rules that you complete every day for 75 days. If you miss even one rule, say you work out for 40 minutes one day, then you start back over at day 1. The creator himself acknowledges that this program isn’t for the weak and refers to it as more of a mental challenge.

My Challenges

My biggest problem to over come is time management. I work a 12 hour job so fitting in those two workouts would mean a lot of moving things around and really obsessing over this challenge. Also, it’s still cold where I live! I don’t want to say I’m a baby or anything but I seriously cannot afford to get even the sniffles for fear of not being allowed in work. So I need to start looking at the weather and planning for that if I want to take this seriously.

Following a diet isn’t bad, however, I am human and I don’t want to cut out family pizza night. The same with alcohol. I’m not a big drinker but maybe once a week I will relax with my husband and have a Smirnoff.

Drinking a gallon a day won’t be hard for me as I drink roughly 90-100 oz. of water a day now, so it will only take a little adjusting. The same thing is true for reading. I already have quiet a few nonfiction books picked out for this.

Taking a progress picture every day would be more of a memory challenge for me. So I would probably need to set an alert in my phone to make sure I get that done every day.

Starting My “Training”

Starting this Monday, March 14th, I will start my “training”. This will help me see if this program is not only for me mentally, but also for me physically. I’m not trying to get physically hurt out of this challenge. I will be following a version of these rules every day leading up to April 1st. At that point, I will reevaluate and go from there.

Rule #1

Instead of doing two 45 minute workouts, I will do two 30 minute workouts. I will work in at least three outdoor workouts a week, DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER! I already have some ideas like taking my dog for walks or doing a Beachbody program outside. I also have a cycling bike that isn’t heavy that I could drag outside. Again, it’s going to take a lot of planning on my part, so fingers crossed.

Rule #2

For my diet, I want to focus on staying in a caloric deficit, however, I’m going to continue listening to my body and eat when I’m hungry. I am also not going to cut out alcohol just yet. I’ve mentioned this before, but I really want to learn how to make faux margaritas.

Rule #3

Again, drinking the gallon of water a day won’t be an issue but I am going to start keeping a closer eye on how much I’m intaking. The goal is to drink a gallon, but if too much water starts to have a negative impact, I won’t continue.

Rule #4

I have had a goal for the past month to read 50 pages a day, fiction of course, and it has been really working for me. I’ve been mixing it up with books I haven’t read and ones that I’ve read countless times already, my most recent being Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I am so loving that dive back into my childhood!

Rule #5

I will be tracking my daily progress via Instagram. Or at least I hope to.

Join Me!

I fully intend on creating a workout plan as well as a meal plan for each week, all of which I will be posting on here. Join me in this weird challenge! Again, this will last from Monday March 15 until April 1. If this works for me, I will step it up to the real 75 Hard challenge! I want to make sure that I’m not causing myself any harm, hence why I’m doing a “training” period. Who know, maybe I will keep doing this modified version if it works for me.

I want to thank you all for reading and until next time……..
